Ana Čop
Bio
Ana Čop, born in 1994, is a Slovenian singer and pianist, performing mostly in the field of jazz. She started her musical education as a young classical pianist, participating in several competitions as a soloist and performed very successfully within the piano trio “Sensible”. After graduating from high school in 2013, Ana began her studies in “Musicology” at the University of Ljubljana. At the same time her attention was drawn to jazz singing and in 2014 was accepted into the jazz department at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Nada Žgur.
Ana soon realized that jazz singing was the only “right thing” for her to do and applied to several Universities. In 2016 Professor Dena DeRose accepted her into the Bachelor program at the University for Music and the Performing Arts Graz.
During these years of search and discovery, Ana participated in many workshops and took private lessons with such renowned musicians as: Kevin Mahogany, Theo Bleckmann, Norma Winstone, Kate McGarry, JD Walter, Danny Grissett, Joe Sanders, Sachal Vasnadani, Gabrielle Stravelli and Bill Laurance.
As a singer, Ana collaborated in various projects and Slovenian musicians such as Big Band Radio and Television Slovenia, the Big Band Grousuplije, Tadej Tomšič, Matej Hotko, Jaka Kopač and Jaka Pucihar etc.
Her biggest project of previous year was her tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, “I remember Ella”, which she presented both with a big band and with her quartet.
In addition to singing, Ana enjoys arranging for small groups, mostly trios and quartets. In the future, she would like to continue arranging but also begin composing her own original compositions.
