Bio

Ilmārs started to learn music from early childhood. He played piano in Valkas music school and sang in school’s and professional choirs. Later he learned to play the guitar and joined to several music bands. Ilmārs started with jazz music when he had studied at Ventspils music school. 

Ilmārs had played in Ventspils Big Band, where he has got the important part of his education in jazz music and shared the stage with Maestro Raimonds Pauls, Intars Busulis, Gints Pabērzs and other Latvian and foreigner musicians. He has participated in international festivals in Finland and Germany.

Currently, he is studying at Tallinn Music Academy in Jazz Bass program. He teaches guitar/bass at Räpina music school and organizes jazz and improvisation nights at his hometown Valka.
