International jazz artists contest was founded in 2004, and is a unique music event in Latvia both for the genre, and the quality level. Ever since the beginning, many jazz talents-to-be has performed on the stage in Riga. Nowadays many of ex-contestants like Intars Busulis, Ieva Kerēvica, Daumants Kalniņš and Kristīne Prauliņa has acclaimed public recognition and became well-known artists.
Riga Jazz Stage main aim of the contest is to give an opportunity for young musicians to show their talents on an international level.

Each year contest gets more ambitious and draws more and more local and foreign media and stakeholder attention. It is equally important for us to highlight both cultural and educational role of the contest, as it is not only a contest of young jazz artists but a concert and a great opportunity for young musicians to gain experience, train and develop new contacts in the jazz world.

The event is organized my Contemporary Music Centre Foundation (fonds “Mūsdienu Mūzikas centrs”).
