Riga Jazz Stage finalists take part in the festival "Rīgas Ritmi 2016”

This year the jazz, world and improvised music festival “Rīgas Ritmi” is celebrating its 16 years anniversary and within the four day festival (29.06-02.07.) a wide and colorful program is scheduled, enabling the audience to experience legendary musician’s concerts, but also to witness the new and upcoming jazz stars.

This year the jazz, world and improvised music festival “Rīgas Ritmi” is celebrating its 16 years anniversary and within the four day festival (29.06-02.07.) a wide and colorful program is scheduled, enabling the audience to experience legendary musician’s concerts, but also to witness the new and upcoming jazz stars.

 

 

Alongside such world famous artists as Dianne Reeves, Justin Kauflin, James Morrison, Liz Rosa, Paris Combo and many more, come the “Riga Jazz Stage” (RJS) finalists presenting their solo projects and bands.

 

A real RJS finalist’s parade will be presented by the band “The Brag Pack” ft. Gerhard Ornig. The singer of the band is this year’s finalist Kinga Pruś (Poland), other members of the band include the laureates of previous RJS contests – Andris Buiķis (Latvia) and Gerhard Ornig (Austria).

 

The laureate of RJS 2014 Evilena Protektore (Latvia) will perform both with the band “Jazzatomy” and with her solo project. “Jazzatomy” is a band which Evilena established together with piano player Artjoms Sarvi (Latvia) – RJS 2007 laureate. Band also includes the saxophone player, RJS 2014 laureate Toms Rudzinskis (Latvia).

 

The finalist of RJS 2015 Tamuz Nissim (Israel) will present her solo project featuring the Riga Jazz Quartet – Rihards Goba, Viktors Ritovs, Edvīns Ozols, Artis Orubs – and the trumpet player Gerhard Ornig.

 

Kristīne Prauliņa (Latvia) –RJS 2014 Grand Prix winner – will perform together with the band “Alaska Dreamers” – a band in which Oskars Ozoliņš (RJS 2015 laureate) also is playing.

 

During the festival there will be several concerts including Latvian Radio Big band and Latvian Radio band.  Both bands are represented by three RJS finalists – Nauris Strežs, Oskars Ozoliņš, Dāvis Jurka.

 

This year “Rīgas Ritmi” offers 19 concerts in 5 different concert places – from sunny terraces and jazz clubs to sophisticated concert halls. Festival also organizes workshops.
