"Riga Jazz Stage 2018" becomes closer with every new day

The International Jazz Artist Contest has already received applications from the young jazz talents from Great Britain, Denmark, Germany, France, Switzerland. Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, USA, Turkey, Taiwan, Syria, Azerbaijan and Armenia. This year contest invites jazz vocalists and jazz bassists
The online application is available at rigajazz.lv till January 15th.

The Live performance of the young artists will take place on April 5. After this the jury will choose the best jazz vocalist and bassists for the Final concert on April 6. The winners will be announced at the Gala concert on April 7.

The special guest of that night is a sensational Brazilian bass guitarist, a jury member Michael Pipoquinha who together with Latvian Radio Big Band will present the program “Tribute to Jaco”.  

The great „Riga Jazz Quartet” - Viktors Ritovs (keyboard), Artis Orubs (drums), Andris Grunte (bass) and Rihards Goba (guitar) – will provide a musical accompaniment for the young musician’s performances.

Each year “Riga Jazz Stage” welcomes yet-to-be jazz stars in the capital of Latvia, Riga, and gets an opportunity for them to present their selves in international level. The contest invites the audience to go along with the competition spirit and to enjoy jazz in yet unheard interpretations.

Contestants' performances will be judged by an international jury of world-class musicians, music producers and festival directors and organizers from Lithuania, Estonia, Great Britain, Finland, Germany, USA, Turkey etc. The representative of Latvia is Maestro Raimonds Pauls with his special price.

During the years the contest has become a unique high level jazz event in Baltic States and the third jazz artist contest in Europe. 205 participants from 31 country took part in the contests since its’ foundation in 2004. Among the winners had been local artists Intars Busulis, Kristīne Prauliņa, Daumants Kalniņš, Matīss Čudars, Dāvis Jurka, Kristaps Vanadziņš, Andris Buiķis and many others.
