Kurt Rosenwinkel's Master Class!

On April 7, 10 am at Latvian Radio Studio 1 – Kurt Rosenwinkel presents a master class featuring live performance and conversation with local jazz musicians and Riga Jazz Stage contestants.

Kurt Rosenwinkel became known ever since the 90s, and at the moment considered to be one of the most talented guitarists of his generation. He was working with such significant musicians like Brad Meldau, Brian Blade, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, as well as the jazz legend Joe Henderson.

Kurt’s distinctive feature is his unique identity both as a guitarist and composer. The secret lies beneath the sound, clear tone of the guitar with a refined without-lyrics singing. With a mild vocal warm-up, Kurt sings each improvisation note using a small microphone, creating a wide and unrepeatable melody.

Deep jazz traditions, obtained during studies in Berklee Music College, are now the base of Rosenwinkel’s music. A unique improvisation style and an extraordinary sound of the instrument complements those traditions.

Kurt Rosenwinkel has released 13 music albums and has been a guest in more than 50 records. Kurt also won the Composer’s Award from the National Endowment for the Art for his compositions. Recently, his new album – Caipi – was released.

“Kurt Rosenwinkel is a genius - he really is.”
