The main jazz event in the springtime “Riga Jazz Stage 2019” will take place from April 4 till 6 in “Splendid Palace”. Tickets are available at “Bilesu Serviss” ticket office and www.bilesuserviss.lv.

This year Jazz Artist Contest received applications from the young jazz artists from Australia, Canada, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Rumania, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and the USA.

The Live Performance of the young artists will take place on April 4. After this, the jury will choose the best jazz vocalist and pianists for the Final Concert on April 5. The winners will be announced at the Gala Concert on April 6. The special guest of that night is the gorgeous Portuguese jazz diva Maria João.

„Riga Jazz Quartet” - Kristaps Vanadziņš (keyboard), Andris Buiķis (drums), Andris Grunte (bass) and Jānis Bērziņš (guitar) – will provide musical accompaniment for the young musician’s performances.

Each year “Riga Jazz Stage” welcomes yet-to-be jazz stars in the capital of Latvia, Riga, and gets an opportunity for them to present their selves in international level. The contest invites the audience to go along with the competitive spirit and to enjoy jazz in yet unheard interpretations.

Contestants’ performances will be judged by an international expert jury of professional musicians, producers and festival organizers from Great Britain, Japan, Italy, USA, Turkey, and other countries. The representative of Latvia is Maestro Raimonds Pauls with his special musical price for the best improvisation.

English jazz star Anthony Strong  notes:

"Riga Jazz Stage is an important jazz fixture in the calendar - up-and-coming jazz musicians should take note! I hope to come back to Riga soon!"

During the years the contest has become a unique high-level jazz event in the Baltic States and the third jazz artist contest in Europe. More than 300 participants from 33 countries took part in the contests since its foundation in 2004. Among the winners had been local artists Intars Busulis, Kristīne Prauliņa, Daumants Kalniņš, Matīss Čudars, Dāvis Jurka, Kristaps Vanadziņš, Andris Buiķis, and many others.

“With every new year, participants become more ambitious and show amazing musical performances, which deserves to be on the best stages”
