Contest Procedure


Performers both amateur and professional who are no older than 30 years old (born on or after April 8th, 1988) may apply in two categories – Vocal &  Bass – worldwide.

The competition consists of 3 rounds:

  1. Pre-selection   
  2. Live Performance – April 5th
  3. Finale – April 6th

1st round | Pre-selection

Applicant should fulfill Application Form online. Each Application must include a short biography, three (3) landscape photos, three (3) audio recordings, one (1) video link of Applicant performing, and a copy of passport. After fulfilling the Application Form Applicant should pay Application Fee of 100 EUR (including VAT), otherwise, Application Form would not be submitted to the contest.   

During the pre-selection, the jury will score the materials submitted by the contestants on these criteria:

  • Originality;
  • Improvisational quality;
  • Sound quality;

Jury chooses finalists of each category who will be invited to the Live Performance taking place in Riga, Latvia on 5th of April, 2018;

Firstly, the decision of the jury will be announced separately and individually to each participant of the contest soon after the closing of application process via email. Then information about Finalists will be put on the webpage of Riga Jazz Stage –

2nd round | Live Performance

Each contestant invited to the Live Performance in Riga, Latvia – have complete freedom in choosing their repertoire (one (1 song) max. duration of 5 minutes), and will be provided with the professional accompanying band (piano, guitar, bass, drums).

After the Live Performance concert jury announces contestants to perform at the Finale on the 6th of April, 2018;

3rd round | Finale

12 finalists – 6 in each category* will perform two (2) entirely new songs (both together max. 7 minutes) at the Finale concert of the competition;

*number of participants in each category may differ.

Jury announces the winners at the Award Ceremony on April 7th, 2018.



The judging panel comprised of international world-class music industry experts – producers, festival directors and organizers, musicians, and journalists.
